Job Overview:

Cashbuild is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Cashier to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for the accurate handling of Point of Sale (POS) transactions, ensuring proper record-keeping, and delivering a high standard of customer service. You will also play a vital role in safeguarding company assets by ensuring that no goods pass through the till point without being paid for.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12 certificate (Matric) OR at least 1 year of relevant work experience in a retail or cashiering environment.

  • Strong communication skills in English and the dominant language spoken in the local area.

  • Competent in performing basic mathematical calculations quickly and accurately.

  • Must have strong administrative and organizational skills.

  • Willingness to work shifts, including weekends and Public Holidays.

  • Ability to remain calm and efficient under pressure in a fast-paced retail environment.


Key Responsibilities:

1. Cash Handling & POS Operations

  • Ensure that all allocated cash (including floats and petty cash) balances at the end of each shift with no shortages or overages.

  • Accurately scan, identify, and capture goods using the Point of Sale Terminal.

  • Process all payment types correctly (cash, card, store vouchers, etc.).

  • Maintain sufficient change levels throughout the day and alert management if change is needed.

  • Perform cash pick-ups at scheduled intervals and place funds in secure containers.

  • Conduct end-of-day cash-ups, reconciling sales and submitting takings into the Drop Safe or Vault.

  • Accurately process any transactions involving store credit, transfers, deliveries, or customer quotes.

2. Administrative Support

  • Sign, compile, and file all relevant cashiering documents as per store procedures.

  • Ensure all administrative processes are accurate and up to date.

3. Customer Service

  • Deliver fast, friendly, and efficient service to every customer at the checkout.

  • Assist customers with basic inquiries and refer them to the appropriate staff member when necessary.

  • Maintain a clean and professional appearance in line with the company dress code.

  • Ensure that the checkout area is tidy, organized, and ready for daily business.

4. Operational Readiness

  • Ensure your POS terminal is operational and ready before the store opens.

  • Follow all standard procedures outlined in the Ready for Business” and Beyond My Control” processes, as guided by the Cashbuild Way.

5. Health & Safety Compliance (OHSA)

  • Uphold occupational health and safety standards in your work area.

  • Be vigilant in identifying and reporting safety hazards or incidents to the Store Manager.

  • Promote and maintain a safe environment for both staff and customers.

6. Security Awareness

  • Follow all security protocols, including system login control and restricted access to sensitive systems.

  • Ensure secure handling, storage, and transportation of cash as per policy.

  • Report any suspicious behavior, theft, or discrepancies immediately.
