REQUIREMENTS:
Grade 12 or its equivalent, or Senior Certificate. A degree or diploma in midwifery and general nursing, or an equivalent credential, is required to be registered as a professional nurse with the South African Nursing Council (SANC). enrollment as a professional nurse with the South African Nursing Council. Currently registered with SANC. a minimum of seven years of relevant, identifiable nursing experience following registration with SANC as a General Nursing Professional Nurse.
A driver’s license with code 08 in effect is advised. combination of computer literacy (word processing and spreadsheet programs) and at least two years of experience working as a professional nurse in critical care or renal nursing.
Knowledge, Proficiency, Qualities, and Capabilities: excellent interpersonal communication abilities. high degree of inventiveness and initiative. proficiency in both writing and spoken communication. Decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
proficiency in spreadsheet and word processing software. familiarity with current legislation, public service, and health-related laws and policies. familiarity with the Human Tissue Act and the legal system.
Capacity to develop referral and organ donation policies. Maintain objectivity when interacting with potential contributors in a highly sentimental setting.
Must be able to inspire team members to collaborate toward the shared objective of a successful donor transplant.
DUTIES:
Finding, evaluating, and caring for a possible cadaver donor.
Work together and cover for other transplant coordinators throughout the province. Organize and support the province of KZN’s organ donation program. Work and communicate with the Inkosi Albert Luthuli Hospital complex’s transplant team. Organize and assist the workup procedures and processes for possible donors, including the screening of donors to ensure their suitability and understanding. Encourage and raise consciousness about organ donation.
Organize the efforts of the various specialities in the process of organ procurement. Counsel potential donors’ families and relatives. Clinical involvement in all transplant-related activities in the province of KZN after hours. Teach possible cadaver identification and referral to trauma, theatre, critical care, outpatient, and clinical staff.
Support the establishment and execution of protocols, standard operating procedures, and institutional rules. Take part in meetings with multidisciplinary groups and the Outreach program. Take part in evaluations and inspections both internally and externally. Perform routine evaluations of the transplant procedures.
